MOP Vaishnav College for Women

Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, the prominent managing body of D.G Vaishnav College, in its silver jubilee year, collaborated with Dewan Bahadur M. O. Parthasarathy Iyengar Charities for the establishment of this women’s college in 1992, a dream realisation and the result of the determination and sustained efforts of the two trusts. Both these organisations have eminent industrialists, administrators and people committed to the cause of women’s education.

Since its inception, MOP Vaishnav College for Women  has been committed to attracting and supporting top calibre women students providing them the right arenas for higher education. From a humble beginning with 3 courses in under graduation (B.Com, B.B.A. & B.Sc. Maths), the college today has over 14 UG & 6 PG courses plus a dedicated Research programme in the Department of Commerce. The college, affiliated to the University of Madras, has strength of 3,030 students. The college offered itself for accreditation in its decennial year and has been reaccredited in 2009 by the NAAC (The National Assessment & Accreditation Council) with an ‘A’ grade and a 3.51 CGPA on a 4 point scale.

M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women also has the distinction of being one of the youngest colleges in the country to have been granted autonomy by the University Grants Commission and the University of Madras.

he individual departments and centres of the college are responsible for the academic activities which include Teaching, Research and other educational support to students.

The courses of study are organized on semester programmes and many subjects diverse under each course is set for each semester. The medium of education is English and students are evaluated on a continuous basis throughout the semester. Evaluation is done by the faculty, a consequence of the autonomous status granted to the Institute. Research work is evaluated on the basis of the review thesis by peer examiners and guides.

The regimen of academic study at each level is well balanced with extra & co curricular activities. Which include workshops, lectures, seminars, conferences, symposia etc. organized by the faculty. The faculty of the college have distinguished themselves through awards for academic accolades earned nationally and globally.
