About JNTUH College

The College was established as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in 1965 by the Government of Telangana. When the college was under the administrative control of the Department of Technical Education, it was affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. With the formation of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University on 2nd October 1972, it became a constituent college of the University and was later renamed as JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad. From its inception in 1965 to 1984, the College was located at Masab Tank Campus. In 1984, the College was shifted to its permanent location at Kukatpally, a 100 acres site, about 20 km from the heart of the City, on Bombay National Highway (NH-9).The activities of the college are basically supported by the budgetary allocation from the University funds. Specific grants from different funding agencies like UGC, MHRD, AICTE, DST are also sought from time to time for the development of the college. The College has purchased modern and sophisticated equipment worth about 20 crores from the research and development grants received from MHRD, AICTE, DST and TEQIP (A World Bank-aided Project). The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1990.

The infrastructure development in the past two decades in the college has been substantial. After shifting to the new campus in 1984, the Civil and Mechanical Engineering block and Hostel blocks for boys and girls were added. Subsequently Computer Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, separate Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Library blocks were constructed. The college library consists of nearly 61,414 books, and about 126 Journals and 4000 on-line journals. It also subscribes to 50 Journals every year.

The Industrial Consultancy Unit of the college is very active in offering the expertise of the staff in various fields like Structural Engineering Geotechnical Engineering Survey, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Almost all departments have Computers to carry out Computer Laboratories, Projects, Research and Development work. The systems include Pentiums and work stations. Some departments have very powerful computer systems to carry out special purpose works. A 24×7 Centralized Computer Centre, having biometric entry, has been established which is open to students and staff round the clock on all days including holidays. Important softwares of all the departments are housed in it and can be accessed by the students and staff.

The college presently has 4 hostel blocks namely Godavari Hostel and Krishna Hostel (for boys) and Saraswati Hostel & Kamala Nehru (for Girls). The college provides hostel facilities for about 820 boys and 575 girls. A new PG Hostel for Boys is ready for occupation. Other facilities in the campus include a bank, Post office, Hospital, Canteen, play fields along with a pavilion etc. The college has NCC (National Cadet Corps) and NSS (National Service Scheme) units. Almost 100% of our college students are getting employment through campus placements.

The student branch of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is very active. The college also has ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) chapter.

The Faculty Members of the College also guide Research Programmes, leading to M.S / M.Phil / Ph.D Degree offered by the University.

The number of students admitted every year into various under graduate courses is 290 and postgraduate course is 415.

Besides academic activities, the College is conducting extensive research activities and offering industrial consultancy services to various Government and Private organizations.

The College is well connected by RTC bus service from various parts of the city. Further, the College runs a bus from Masab Tank campus to Kukatpally campus for the staff and students

Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the departments available from the inception of the college in 1965. The Department has qualified and experienced staff and well equipped laboratories with basic equipment required for undergraduate courses and modern equipment to meet the postgraduate and research requirements. The Department is very active in academic, research and consultancy Programmes. It receives grants from MHRD, DST, UGC and AICTE. The Department has very sophisticated test facilities such as Soil DYrJamic testing, Reaction Bed for cyclic/dynamic loading of structures. Test Tanks are available for testing of model foundations with a facility to alter water table position. The Department has established the centre for Geo- environmental Engineering in 1999 as the first research centre in the College. The Department has its own computer has its own computer laboratory to meet the requirements of undergraduate, post graduate and research students. The Department has its own Seminar Hall and Library.

Electrical & Electronics Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was initially started in 1965 in the name of Electrical Engineering. The Department was renamed as Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1979 (popularly known as Department of EEE). The Department has qualified staff and well equipped laboratories. The Department has its own computer laboratory to meet the requirements of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research students. Department has its own Library and seminar hall.

Mechanical Engineering  The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the departments existing since 1965, the year of inception of the College. The Department has qualified and experienced staff and well equipped laboratories. The Department is equipped with computer laboratory to meet the requirements of Undergraduate, Graduate and Research students

Electronics & Communication Engineering The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was initially a part of Electrical Engineering Department. It became a regular and full-fledged Department in 1973. The Department has well qualified and experienced staff and well equipped laboratories. It has its own computer laboratory to meet the requirements of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and research students. The Department has many successful MHRD/ AICTE, UGC and DST projects to its credit and has organized a number of shortterm courses Refresher courses and Summer/Winter schools. The department has completed its 25 years of successful existence and celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1998

Computer Science & Engineering The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was initially a part of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department. In 1984 the Department started functioning as an independent Department. The Department has qualified staff and well equipped laboratories.

Metallurgical Engineering The B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering was started in 1989.The Department started functioning independently from 1992. Now the Department has a separate building shared with well-established labs. The Department is growing steadily and has its own Computer laboratory besides the Departmental Library

Student Facilities

INFRASTRUCTURE
The College has 40 lecture halls and 4 drawing halls. The bench space available in classroom is about 2 Sq.m per student and working space available in the laboratories is about 5 sq.m per student. There is a seminar hall to accommodate 150 people. Each department has got its own independent buildings, departmental Libraries and seminar halls. The common facilities such as Auditorium, Guest House, a Branch of Andhra Bank, Extension counter of SBH, Staff Quarters, Principal Quarter, Canteen, Power House with 140 KV A Generator connected to all buildings including Hostels.

HOSTELS

The College has two Hostels for Boys and one Hostel for Girls. The Boys hostels have a total boarding capacity of 350 students while the Girls hostel accommodates 120 girl students. Deputy Wardens are available in the campus.One PG Hostel for Boys and One PG Hostel for Girls are under construction.

SPORTS AND GAMES
The college has ample facilities for sports and games. A Deputy Director of Physical Education organizes these activities. There are facilities for playing Cricket, Football, Table Tennis and other games. A running track is also available. The students have been participating in inter-collegiate, interUniversity and state level sports and games. Their performance has been quite satisfactory. A multi Gym is also available for Boys. Multi Gym for Girls is under procurement.

DOMESTIC EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT
A domestic waste water treatment system was constructed for treating the waste generated from hostels and staff quarters. The project was taken up in collaboration with MIs. Delta Business Services, USA. The treatment system consists of 3 units – Deep Anaerobic pond, Aeration tank and, Solarization pond. Most of the organic matter will be decomposed in anaerobic pond. Later, the waste water will be going to Aeration tank, where the waste water will be oxidized and oxygen is supplied with blowers. Finally, the waste water goes to solarization pond, where the waste water will be disinfected by solar heat. The final effluent will be applied to plants. By using the treated water for gardening, most of the water requirement in the campus will be reduced.

MEDICAL
The College has a qualified doctor and a dispensary to cater to the medical needs of the students and faculty. A 20 bedded hospital is nearing completion.
