• Candidates who have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (Class 12) of the Central Board of Secondary Education or a recognised equivalent examination are eligible to apply.
• Admission will be on the basis of marks obtained in the Class 12 or equivalent examination. The aggregate required for admission will be calculated on the basis of marks secured in a language, marks secured in the subject in which admission is sought and marks secured in any other 2 academic/elective subjects as defined by the University of Delhi. The list of subjects considered as academic/elective by the University of Delhi is given in the section Calculating Eligibility for Admission.
• For admission to the B.A. Honours programme in Economics or the B.Sc. Honours programmes in Mathematics or Statistics one of the subjects in Class 12 must be Mathematics. For admission to B.Sc. Honours courses, students must have a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics.
• Meeting the eligibility criteria does not automatically guarantee the applicant’s admission to the course of her choice. Canvassing of any kind will disqualify the candidate. The decision of the Admission Committee and the Principal in this regard will be final.

In addition, all students who would like to be considered for admission to LSR, are advised to meet the Pre-Admission Counseling unit, set up in the College either personally or through a representative. This will help the student make her choices and facilitate the admission process.

The Pre-Admission Counseling unit will function between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Monday to Friday,between June 02, 2014 and June 13, 2014.

• Marks are calculated on the basis of 4 subjects (the Best of Four scores). These include:
  1. One language (Core/Elective/ Functional)
  2. Subject in which admission is sought
  3. Any other 2 academic/ elective subjects as defined by the University of Delhi
• The following subjects that are offered as Honours courses by the University of Delhi are treated as academic / elective subjects for the purpose of admission, provided the marksheet states clearly that there is atleast a 70% component of theory exams in the qualifying examination (Theory examinations do not include internal assessment / continuous evaluation, etc). If there is less than 70% component of theory, a disadvantage of 10% of maximum marks will be levied in each such subject.

  * Accountancy will be treated as equivalent to Commerce whenever any board is not offering Commerce as a subject.
  * Biology and Business Studies will be treated as academic/elective subjects.
  * Home Science, Music and Physical Education will be treated as academic/elective only for Honours in Home Science, Music and Physical Education (at IGIPESS only) respectively.
  * The University may define any other relevant subjects as academic/elective for a particular Honours course.

• If the student has not studied the subject in which she wishes to seek admission, there will be a negative weightage of 2% in the calculated Best of Four percentage.
• In case a student wishes to include a non-elective/academic subject (as defined above) in the calculation of the Best of Four marks,there will be a deduction of 10% of the maximum marks for each such subject that is included in the calculation.
• A second language can be considered as one of the other elective subjects provided that the marksheet states that the other language is an elective course.
• For admission to Honours in English, the student must have studied English in Class 12 and for admission to Honours in Hindi, the student must have studied Hindi in Class 12 and the marks of that language have to included for calculation of Best of Four percentage.
• For admission to Honours in any other language course, except English and Hindi, a candidate who has not studied that language at the qualifying exam is allowed to take admission in that language with a disadvantage of 5% in the Best of Four percentage.
• For admission to Honours in any language course, an advantage of 2% in the Best of Four percentage will be given to those who have studied the language at an elective level.
• For Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, a student must have Mathematics as a subject in the qualifying examination. For B.Sc. courses, a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics is essential.
• To calculate the aggregate, a student must read the procedure for calculating the Best of Four percentages carefully and calculate her marks according to the guidelines set down.
• Examples for calculation of Best of Four percentages are given below.
  

  Example 1: If a candidate is seeking admission in Honours in Commerce and has studied : Accounts (90), Business Studies (92), English (88) and Economics (94), then her total marks are 90+92+88+94=364 and effective percentage is 91% Example 3: If a candidate is seeking admission in Honours in Commerce and has studied: Accounts (88), Entrepreneurship (92), English (90) and Web Designing (94), then her total marks are 88+92+90+94=364 and percentage is 91% but effective marks are 88+82 (92-10) +90+84 (94-10)=344 and effective percentage is 86% Example 2: If a candidate is seeking admission in Honours in Commerce and has studied: Physics (96), Chemistry (92), English (90) and Mathematics (94), then her total marks are 96+92+90+94=372 and percentage is 93% but effective percentage is 93-2=91% Example 4: If a candidate is seeking admission in Honours in English and has studied: Accounts (90), Business Studies (92), English (88) and Home Science (94), then her total marks are 90+92+88+94=364 and percentage is 91% but effective marks are 90+92+88+84(94-10)=354 and effective percentage is 88.5%

Additional College Guidelines For Evaluation Of Merit For Purposes Of Admission To Lady Shri Ram College – 2014-2015

Three year B.A. / B.Sc Honours Courses
In addition to the declared cut-offs and the criteria mentioned earlier, the following additional requirements / criteria will also be followed:

• LSR will display the ‘cut-offs’ as per the dates announced by the University. If the candidate’s marks fall within the ‘cut-offs’ announced and all eligibility criteria is met (including relevant special requirements), the candidate should verify the date and time allotted for her counseling with the admission-in-charge of the relevant department.
• Those seeking admission will have to be personally present to gain admission.
• No student is allowed to take admission in two courses/colleges simultaneously. Incase she is found to be admitted in two courses/colleges simultaneously, her admission will be cancelled.
• For subjects, such as B.El.Ed, where centralised entrance tests are being held and centralised admission is being done, please check the University of Delhi website and the information given under the heading ‘Centralised Admission Entrance Tests’.
• All admissions will be provisional and subject to confirmation by the University of Delhi.
• On admission, candidates are required to submit all original certificates on the same day and pay the fees in cash. The candidates must submit the following original documents along with one attested photocopy of each at the time of taking admission –
  1. Date of Birth certificate or Secondary School or equivalent Examination Certificate clearly stating the date of birth.
  2. Original Mark-sheet issued by the Board / University.
  3. Certificate from the Head of Institution last attended.
  4. A passport size photograph should be pasted on the College Enrolment Form and another submitted to the office on the day of the Counseling after the admission is finalized.
  5. SC/ST/OBC/PwD certificates wherever applicable.
  6. Students who have not studied Hindi upto class 10 are required to produce their class 8 marks sheet as evidence of having / not having studied Hindi upto class 8.

Original documents will be retained by the College.

Orientation

The Orientation is an invaluable introduction that provides an insight into the functioning of the College before the commencement of classes. It is designed to make entrants feel more at home in their new environment. Attendance at the Orientation is compulsory. Those admitted to the College must check the date for Orientation on the day of admission.

Migration
Migration to this College is not permissible in any year.

Admission to any Semester/Year Other Than The First
No direct admission to any semester/year other than the first semester is permissible by the University of Delhi.

SC/ST/OBC/PWD Category Students
It is mandatory for all students from these categories to apply for admission on the University of Delhi admission forms (either online at www.du.ac.in or offline at designated centers). For further details, please check the University of Delhi website.

SC/ST/OBC/PwD Category students should also check the details for their registration either on the University of Delhi website or contact the office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare (Main Campus) University of Delhi.

In addition, all SC/ST/OBC/PwD category students who would like to be considered for admission to LSR, are advised to meet the Pre-Admission Counseling unit, set up in the College, either personally or through a representative. Eligibility Criteria For SC/ST/OBC/PWD Category Students
The eligibility criteria for SC/ST/OBC/PWD categories will be according to the guidelines of the University of Delhi.

• Students applying under these categories must possess valid SC/ST/OBC/PwD category certificates.
• These should be issued in their own names and be according to the criteria set down by the University of Delhi.
• Admission for all these categories is provisional and subject to verification of the SC/ST/OBC/Medical Certificate, by the competent authority. The certificates submitted will be verified from the concerned issuing authority.
• Admission to the four year undergraduate degree course will be based on Discipline-I (Major Discipline)– for e.g. if a student wishes to choose Economics as her Discipline–I Course, her marks should fall within the ‘cut-off’ of that subject, for her category.
• Marks will be calculated on the basis of a language, subject in which admission is sought and two academic/elective subjects as defined by the Univesity of Delhi.
• The eligibility criteria and the calculation of marks will be the same as for students of the general category. Please refer to the section on Calculating Eligibility for Admission.
• In addition, for OBC Students

1. The OBC Certificate must clearly state that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer.
2. A student applying under this category should ensure that her caste is listed in the approved Central Government list of the Backward Classes.

• The list of students eligible under each category, according to the ‘cut off’, will be displayed in the College.

• If the candidate’s name appears on the list and her marks fall within the ‘cut off’, she should check the date and time allotted for her counselling with the admission-in-charge of that particular category.8 Lady Shri Ram College for Women

However those students under these categories who wish to be considered for any other category (General/OBC/SC/ST/PwD) must register separately online/offline.

• Students of Foreign/Indian nationality clearing their last examination under a Foreign Board.
• Students of Foreign nationality clearing their last examination under an Indian Board.

Foreign Board (Foreign/Indian Nationals)
Students of Foreign/Indian nationality who have taken their last examination under a non-Indian Board are advised to get in touch with the Foreign Student Advisor, University of Delhi, to obtain a letter certifying:

• Eligibility
• Validity of applicant’s student or long-term visa.
• Equivalence of applicant’s grade with Indian Boards.
• Applicants should have completed this formality by end May/early June.

To Gain Admission:

• Students taking the International Baccalaureate or the ‘A’ level examinations of the GCE are required to have their confidential results posted to the Principal as soon as possible in order to meet the deadlines for application.
• All students have to meet the required ‘cut-off’ percentages of the course applied for. The eligibility criteria and the calculation of marks will be the same as for students of the General Category. Please refer to the section on Calculating Eligibility for Admission.
• Students who have passed the General Certificate Examination (GCE) require at least three ‘O’ level and two ‘A’ level papers. Their grades will be converted to percentages as per equivalence provided by University guidelines
• For students who have appeared for the International Baccalaureate, the University provides guidelines to determine equivalence of their grades with Indian Boards.
• For students who have graduated from the American High School System, equivalence will be worked out on the basis of SAT scores. In exceptional cases students who have maintained an ‘A’ grade can also be considered for admission. Subjects studied should include English and four others, not more than two of which should be in the same area.
• For any other Board, the University equivalence will have to be obtained from the office of the Registrar, University of Delhi.
• The College may also conduct a written test and interview to evaluate the suitability of any student who has appeared in a non-Indian Board examination.
• On being provisionally admitted, students with a foreign nationality/passport need to obtain a medical certificate from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Delhi.

Admission formalities for this category will be completed only after admissions in the General category.

Indian Nationals
Students of Indian nationality who appeared for their qualifying examination under a foreign board may approach the College directly. They are required to fill in the DU Application Form just like other Indian students. In addition they have to provide the following:

• Predicted grades or the actual completed marks sheet.
• SAT score.
• Proof of Indian citizenship (copy of Passport).
• Students who have not undergone the IB/GCSE examination, are required to submit a certificate from the AIU certifying the equivalence of the qualifying examination undergone by them.

Indian Board (Foreign Nationality)
Students of foreign nationality who have passed their last examination under an Indian Board should get in touch with the Foreign Student’s Advisory Board, University of Delhi for completing formalities and payment of additional fees. They must apply for admission to College and meet the eligibility criteria along with the general category of students within the time stipulated for admissions. All rules for general admissions apply to them.

There are very few seats available under these categories and only those with outstanding achievement should apply. Academic performance will carry a definite weightage in the selection process.

Admissions will be at the sole discretion of College and no queries regarding the same will be entertained after the list for trials has been put up. Students selected on the basis of Sports/ECA, are obliged to participate in these activities consistently.

Sports Category

A committee constituted by the College will decide admission on the basis of sports. The Committee will hold interviews and trials as per the Evaluation Chart of the University of Delhi. The level of competence in the sport will be determined on the basis of distinction achieved only within the last three years. Please refer to the appended leaflet/website for the trial dates and any further details.

Candidates must attach copies of the following with the form:
i. Character certificate from the institution last attended.

ii. Certificate of the last qualifying examination passed.

iii. Marksheet on the basis of which admission is sought.

iv. Date of Birth certificate or Secondary School or equivalent Examination Certificate clearly stating the Date of Birth.

v. Documents in support of achievement in the sport on the basis of which admission is sought. COPIES OF ALL SUCH DOCUMENTS AND A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE SPORTSPERSON SHOULD BE ATTESTED BY THE ISSUING AUTHORITY OR BY THE PRINCIPAL OF THE INSTITUTION LAST ATTENDED.

vi. A Certificate of physical fitness signed by a registered medical practitioner.

vii.Details of any scholarships the applicant has availed of in the past three years.

Extra Curricular Activity (ECA) Category

A committee constituted by the College will decide admission on the basis of ECA. Admission under ECA category is usually after the general admissions are over. Candidates are therefore advised not to rely on their qualifying in the trials and to secure admission wherever they can.

Candidates must attach copies of the following with the ECA form:

1. A letter of recommendation from the Principal/ officiating authority of the school last attended clearly giving details of activities participated in. The Principal should also express his/her opinion about the extent to which the candidate might be able to contribute to the cultural life of the College. While such a letter is not mandatory, it is desirable and will add weight to the application.

2. Documents in support of achievement in ECA on the basis of which admission is sought. The College is especially interested in the candidate’s participation in school activities during the last three years.

3. Statement of Purpose written by the student stating how she will contribute to the life of the College and why she has applied to LSR.

4. Portfolios are necessary for those applying under the category of Fine Arts/Painting/Sculpture/Photography and desirable for all other categories.

5. A list of Extra Curricular Activities mentioning level of participation and prizes won in the last three years.

6. Those applying in the category of Performing Arts are required to submit a recording of their performances on a CD.

7. Character certificate from the institution last attended.

8. Mark-sheet on the basis of which admission is sought.

9. Date of Birth certificate or School examination certificate clearly stating the Date of Birth.

Professional Courses in Elementary Education and Journalism and Mass Communication as well as a Post Graduate Diploma Course in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding are available in the College.

B. El. Ed. is a four-year professional elementary teacher-education programme. Students are required to do 9 Foundation Courses, 4 Core Courses, 3 Pedagogy Courses, 2 Liberal Options and 1 Pedagogy Option. Each student must attend not less than 75% each of the lectures delivered and practicum held. The internal assessment carries 30% weightage for Theory Courses. In the case of practicum, assessment is totally internal and is done on a continuous basis. Admission for this course is through an entrance test conducted by the University of Delhi. The one year Diploma in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding is an integrated programme combining classroom learning, fieldwork and action research. Offered to undergraduate and graduate students, NGO workers, media persons and grassroots’ workers, the course seeks to equip potential peacebuilders with the knowledge, skills and expertise to engage in processes of Peacebuilding.

It provides a context for students to build mentoring relationships with renowned practitioners and scholars in the field. Drawing on related developments in the disciplines of peace and conflict studies, sociology, psychology, international relations, development, media studies and economics, the course uses an interdisciplinary approach to explore the causes of, and responses to, conflicts at various levels, including the intra-personal, interpersonal, inter-group, national and international.

The Diploma Programme requires students to:
a. Complete Course work (Four papers: three in the 1st Semester and one in the 2nd Semester)
b. Be placed with an organization working in Conflict Resolution or related fields (for at least two months)
c. Submit a research thesis (of publishable quality) and participate in a viva

• The Residence Hall Admission Procedures will begin only after the First List Admission is over. This is likely to be towards the end of June, 2014.
• For every Department a limited, fixed number of seats are available. Depending on the strength of the Department, this number varies between 2 and 4.
• Subsequently the Residence Hall will display the list of candidates who will get an application form to fill. This will be followed by an interview. After that the final list of students who have made it to the Residence Hall will be displayed. The entire process should be over by August.
• There will be a Residential Hall Fee in addition to the College Fee.

Important:

During the interaction with the Admission in-charge of the Department, candidates must mention that they would like accomodation in the Residence Hall. The Admission in-charge of every Department, on the basis of information provided during the interaction, will recommend the names of applicants who want residence.
